Our school

The Coopérative des professeurs de musique is a non-profit music school founded in 2009. Through its musical training activities, the Coopérative promotes the meeting between professional artists and the population.

Since 2015, the Coopérative moved to beautiful, soundproof premises designed specifically for the music teaching. This 3000 square foot space is located under the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in Montreal at 4220 Drolet Street.

Professors

We bring together 80 active musicians on the Quebec music scene, and dedicated to the transmission of their art. Our teachers are members of several major musical ensembles and are called to perform abroad.

Students

More than 900 students have taken classes with us during the 2018- 2019 academic year. Young or old, all are pursuing their dreams of becoming better musicians.

What sets us apart

The quality of the faculty

In addition to a rigorous musical training, our teachers must not only have appropriate teaching experience, but they must also be active on the music scene. Thus, our faculty consists of committed musicians, always on the lookout for new practices and trends, and having the necessary perspective to identify young people with exceptional potential. Our students have the opportunity to see their teachers on stage, either in professional orchestras of the region or solo, which increases their motivation and their understanding of the musical environment. It is often by going to a first concert that a young person develops its passion for music, a passion that is all the more nourished when the young person has the chance to see its own teacher on stage.

The diversity of courses offered

The Coopérative is proud to include in its ranks members covering all the disciplines of classical music: piano, singing, all the instruments of the orchestra as well as several instruments in jazz and popular music. It even has instructors specialized in early music and members of the great Baroque ensembles in Quebec. The Coopérative welcomes young musicians from an early age. Éveil musical classes, divided into five levels, are tailor-made for children from 9 months to 5 years old. These classes are followed by Introductory courses in piano and violin, allowing young people to choose an instrument to perfect their education in private. Various ensembles such as the Choir and the Small Philharmonic Ensemble enhance the musical development of young artists.
