2022 OMNI Music Competition
Call for musicians aged 7 to 17


Do you know young talents in music? The Orchester Métropolitain is pleased to announce that in 2022 it will hold a 4ᵉ edition of its OMNI Music Competition!  An ideal opportunity for  musicians aged 7 to 17 across the country  to surpass themselves and flourish through a rewarding and decisive event in their musical journey.

Musicians are invited to submit a video recording of a musical performance of their choice by March 21 . The performances of the participants will be presented to the public during an online broadcast on the OM YouTube channel on April 22, 23 and 24 .

Thirty finalists will then be selected to take part in the final round of the Competition, which will take place on May 21 and 22 in person at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur (Montreal) if the health situation allows it, in addition to be released online on June 11 .

Categories

 
The OMNI Competition is divided into nine categories, depending on the instrument and the age of each participant as of March 21, 2022:

Age groups

7 to 11 years old
12 to 14 years old
15 to 17 years old
Instruments

Piano

Strings
(violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp and classical guitar)

Winds
(flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba)
 

Lots of prizes to be won

 

Thanks to its generous partners, the 2022 OMNI Competition will award more than $17,000  in scholarships: 

François Schubert Grand Prize
$5,000 scholarship awarded to the grand prize-winner in the 15-17 year old category *

Hydro-Québec Prize
$2,000 scholarship awarded to the grand prize winner in the 12-14 year old category *

Yannick Nézet-Séguin Prize
$2,000 scholarship awarded to the grand prize winner in the 7-11 year old category *


* The winners are selected from among all the categories instruments.



Prizes by Instrument Category
Prizes will be announced in each of the age and instrument categories and awarded among the finalists. 

New: Crescendo
prize Participants who have recently started learning their instrument are encouraged to participate in the OMNI Competition and could be awarded one of the Crescendo prizes . These prizes, accompanied by a grant, aim to highlight the potential of participants at the start of their musical journey and to encourage them to continue practicing their instrument.


Participation Prize and Audience Prize
Each participant will receive a participation prize and constructive comments noted by the jury. In addition, a Public Prize will be awarded in each category of instruments to the participants who received the most votes during the online broadcast.

Registration

The registration fee is $35 and is non-refundable.
