Featured in CBC Music's 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30 in 2023, Zhan Hong Xiao discovered music at his elementary school, the Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, at the age of nine. He holds a Master's degree with distinction from the Conservatoire de Montréal where he trained with Richard Raymond. He also studied with Charles Richard-Hamelin and Henry Kramer at the Université de Montréal and participated in masterclasses with Maria Joao Pires, Bruce Liu, Stephen Hough, Michel Béroff, Janina Fialkowska, Louis Lortie and Kevin Kenner, among others. A winner of numerous competitions, he notably represented Quebec at the CFMTA National Piano Competition where he won 2nd prize and two other special prizes in 2015; won the grand prize on the program Virtuose hosted by Gregory Charles and Marc Hervieux on Radio-Canada in 2017. He received 3rd prize at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition in 2018 and 2nd prize at the 111th edition of the Prix d’Europe in 2023. Internationally, he has represented Canada in competitions in Spain, Poland and Italy. As a concert artist, he has performed with the Sinfonia de Lanaudière at the Festival International de Lanaudière, the Orchestre Métropolitain at the Maison Symphonique, and the Orchestre Classique de Montréal at Salle Bourgie.
