Alexandre Roux-Dufort stands out in Quebec as a rising voice in the saxophone, composition, and arrangement world. In 2023, he gained international recognition by receiving the Prix d'honneur in composition at the Léopold Bellan International Competition in Paris. He has been described as a "saxophonist and composer with the wind in his sails." (ULaval Nouvelles)
Originally from France, Alexandre has performed at several festivals in Europe and Canada, including the Cap Ferret Music Festival, Québec Jazz en Juin, and Phoque Off. He has played alongside renowned artists such as the band Lost Fingers, clarinetist Virginia MacDonald, and pianist Rafael Zaldivar. As a saxophonist and arranger, he also collaborates with keyboardist Teuteu, the gypsy trio Delasalle, and the Montreal big band Jazz Coven.
His playing experiences have motivated him to develop a personal approach to composition. Alexandre offers a sensitive and personal musical universe, bordering jazz and impressionist music. This stylistic fusion unfolds a refined, calm, and colorful sound. Accompanied by Yannick Anctil on piano, Alex Le Blanc on double bass, and Guillaume Pilote on drums, his quartet released their first single, "Small Place," in 2024.
Alongside his artistic career, Alexandre has been pursuing his vocation for teaching saxophone, jazz music, and improvisation since 2018. Involved in several schools, he founded a saxophone ensemble that encourages group improvisation and the learning of a varied repertoire. His teaching style invites the discovery of different musical traditions, arranged and adapted for the entire saxophone family.
