A bassist and composer, Olivier Babaz has accumulated a wealth of experience both on stage and in the studio.
A sought-after accompanist and the author of six albums, his personal journey led him to complete his conservatory studies in double bass and jazz performance, while continuing his classical technical training. He is also a graduate of the renowned International Music Academy in Nancy and the Didier Lockwood Music Center in Paris. Finally, since 2011, he has held a degree in Music Composition for films from UQAM. He honed his instrumental approach with François Rabbath and Éric Lagace, and his composition studies with Jeff Johnston, among others.
Author of two teaching methods (Jazz Bowing & Creative Improvisor) and a series of instructional videos, he offers lessons for all instruments covering jazz, improvisation, and music theory.
Drawing on his experience as an accompanist and composer, his approach is based on playfulness and experimentation.
His classes invite musicians to explore jazz standards as well as the many repertoires and styles that embody a rich tradition of improvisation (blues, funk, Brazilian, fusion, etc.).
