Teaching at:

  • Villeray

The diversity of musical and artistic paths and avenues frequented by cellist Élisabeth Giroux for more than 15 years draws the contours of an extraordinary artistic personality in the Quebec musical landscape. Élisabeth began playing the cello at the age of 13 and continued musical studies at the Montreal Conservatory of Music where she obtained a Prize with Great Distinction. She then built a solid career in the world of chamber and symphonic music with various ensembles including Angèle Dubeau and the Pietà and the Triosphere ensemble. She quickly became associated with the world of dance and notably participated in several years of world touring with La La La Human Steps. She also collaborates with Sacré Tympan and PPS Danse for the creation of the show Attractions and more recently with the company Tuque et Capuche as composer and performer for the short film Morgane awarded at the California Music Video & Film Awards.

Her research and development in jazz and folk/trad (notably with Eugene Friesen and Nathalie Haas, both professors at the prestigious Berklee College of Music) have led her to very diverse sound universes where her solid experience and expertise take her to work in a very wide range of musical genres. Recognized for her curiosity, her versatility as well as her great mastery of the instrument, Élisabeth multiplies collaborations with leading artists such as the National Jazz Orchestra, Pierre Labbé (Sacré Tympan), Luce Dufault, Véranda, Chromeo and the progressive rock band Karcius. In 2015 she co-founded the Quebec neo-trad trio É.T.É, a true phenomenon of the revival of traditional music in Quebec and rewarded with several prizes including that of Discovery of the year at the Prix Opus of the Conseil québécois de la Musique , Audience Award at the Cabaret Festif! of the next generation and an award from the GAMIQ (Alternative Gala of Independent Music of Quebec). The ensemble has so far released three albums as well as numerous national and international tours.

Élisabeth is also co-founder of the Music Teachers' Cooperative and has taught cello there since 2009.
