Cyril Fonseca has studied an impressive array of musical disciplines from tuba to the piano to classical singing, conducting, music writing and composition. He graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal for a master's degree with distinction in Pierre Beaudry's class, passing by the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart in Germany, under the tutoring of Stefan Heimann and Thomas Brunmayr in 2019. Passionated about studies, he began a graduate artist's diploma at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University with Austin Howle and a bachelor's degree in composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal in the class of Nicolas Gilbert.

Cyril perfected himself during internships (Domaine Forget, PRISMA, Pommersfelden, Orchester des Amériques, etc.), with great masters of the instrument such as Oysteen Baadsvik, Sergio Carolino, Carol Jantsch, Gérard Buquet, Micaël Cortone d'Amore, Joe Skillen, Chris Lee, Paul Beauchesne, Lance Nagels and Martin Schippers.

Graduated from a chamber music competition with distinction in April 2020, he's increasingly becoming a soloist and chamber musician, notably with the quintet of the Orchestre de la Francophonie, which played at the Busan Maru International Music Festival 2018, in South Korea. He can be seen performing at the Festival Unisson since 2020, in a few Quebec brass quintets (CUzN) as well as as a soloist at the gala of the Fondation de la Place des Arts in June 2021. In 2020, Cyril won 3rd prize in the OSM Competition 2020 in his category as well as the Orchestra of the Americas award.

After having been a musical arranger, music librarian and orchestra manager for various ensembles including the Orchestre de la Francophonie, Cyril is a tuba and euphonium teacher at Joseph-François-Perrault high school, Reine-Marie college, the Beaubois college, Notre-Dame college, and Esther-Blondin college as well as the Coop des professors de musique and the Pré conservatoire of Montreal.

Recipient of the Governor General's Medal, a scholarship from the Fondation Desjardins for his community involvement in 2018, a scholarship from the Fondation AIDA of Jeunesses Musicales Canada and the 2021 Conservatory career development scholarship, Cyril is developing administrative talents by completing a master's degree in cultural management at HEC Montreal and being coordinator for the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, the Fondation JFP and the Compagnie Marie Chouinard.
